Feng Shui Colors
It has been proven that colors affect our moods. Choosing the right colors in the right position and place is useful to deal with feng shui balance. Colors can even be used to cure physical ailments as well as act as feng shui cures for your serious problems.
Yin and Yang Colors
Yin colors are the colors that bring about healing and relaxation. It is considered more feminine and calm. Yang colors are the colors that provide us the enthusiasm or the active energy required to do something or be motivated. It is considered more masculine and bold.
Yin colors such as white, blue, purple and green.

Red
In feng shui, red is associated with Fire element and the direction south. Red brings excitement, joy and invigorates the sexual desire. Being the strongest feng shui color representation of the fire element, red is stimulating and dominant. It is also the color of passion, anger and hatred. In feng shui the color can increase the size of an object and decrease the size of a room. Use red wherever you want an energy boost. Avoid using too much red color in places where you need to have enough rest such as bedroom.
Yellow
Yellow is associated with the Earth element. In feng shui, yellow is considered to be as auspicious as red. One of the best feng shui color recommended for lifting our spirits, raising energy level and dispel negativity. Yellow is associated with enlightment and intellect, it stimulates our brain and aids digestion. The color also symbolizes cheerfulness and optimism. You can use yellow in hallways, living rooms, kitchens, offices and play rooms but again avoid using too much yellow in bedrooms as it may prove too energetic and intense.
Blue
Blue represents the Water element and the direction north. This is a peaceful and soothing color that is linked with spirituality, patience, contemplation and mystery. The color can reduce stress and tension and is therefore useful to calm negative emotions when tempers are running high. The color blue is recommended for use in the north (career), east (health) and southeast (wealth) areas of your home. It is also the perfect color used in meditation rooms, therapy rooms, bedrooms and as a mean of enlarging spaces.
Green
Green represents the Wood element and the direction east. Green symbolizes growth, freedom and fertility. Green is very nourishing to our health, as the color balances the whole body by bringing healing vibrations from nature. The balancing, restful and calm qualities in greens makes for an excellent feng shui decorating color choice for therapy rooms, living rooms, conservatories, bedrooms and bathrooms.
Black
Black represents Water element and direction north. This color symbolizes mystery, seriousness and power. Black color may give a feeling of depth in both in a person’s mood and perspective. It is an ideal color for promoting self-confidence and independence. On the other hand, black is usually considered unlucky as the color also represents darkness, bad luck and death. Many Chinese people do not like to wear black color clothes during the first days of Chinese New Year. However, when used in balance with other colors in feng shui it can neutralize or absorb negative influences. Avoid using black in children’s room, study rooms and therapy rooms.
White
White is associated with Metal element and direction west. The color symbolizes purity, innocence, new beginnings and cleanliness.
Brown
Brown represents Earth element and direction southwest. The color promotes stability and safety.
Orange
Orange is often called as the ‘social’ color because this cheerful color creates the necessary feng shui energy to promote lively conversations. Orange emits plenty of yang energy, making it the suitable color used when your creative well runs dry. The positive qualities of this color are happiness, intellect and concentration while its negative is rebelliousness. Orange is an ideal color to use in gathering areas like the dining rooms, living rooms and hallways. It is an active and stimulating color.
Peach
One of the most controversial colors in feng shui is perhaps the peach. This color aligns with ‘Peach Blossom Luck’ which represents attraction and love. Peach is as beautiful as pink and both colors are often used to enhance relationships or romance. A person with peach blossom luck will be outgoing, make new friends, social and have numerous admirers. However, using this color in the bedroom is asking for trouble for those who are married. Peach is the color of infidelity. A married person may be drawn into adultery. Consider painting your bedroom with different color once you are married or you could invite trouble such as cheating.
Purple
Purple is known as the psychic color. It has been linked with activities such as meditation and healing. Purple is considered yin color because it has a calming and restorative effect. This is why the color is often used in bedrooms and meditation rooms.
Pink
Pink has been used in feng shui to enhance relationships or romance. This yin color symbolizes purity of thought, romance and happiness. Its delicate and gentle vibrations have a proven soothing effect on one's behaviour. We can have this beautiful and lovely color almost anywhere - from bedroom to our laundry room.
