How to Find Your Kua Number
Lucky Directions and Colors Based on Kua Numbers
One of the first steps to begin Feng Shui is to know our Kua number (also called Gua number) so that we know our four most favorable directions. These directions will be our luckiest, thus giving us better luck in our life.
By organizing our personal energy areas in a particular way, and by just spending time there, or even facing these directions when we sit down or sleep, we can reduce the stress in our life and create more joy.
According to feng shui, each person has 4 bad directions and 4 good directions. By knowing which 4 directions are our personal good directions, we can maximize our luck by facing our good directions in almost any situation. Our Kua number will also determine whether we are in the East Group or West Group.
To calculate for your Kua number, first you need to know the year of your birth (based on Chinese New Year) and the gender.
The calculation is as follows:
Take the year 1972 for example.
Add the last two years together (7+2=9).
For man, subtract the number from 10 (10-9=1), 1 is the Kua number.
For woman, add 5 to the number (5+9=14; 1+4=5), 5 is the Kua number.
If the sum of the last two years has a double digit, then add the numbers to become one digit:
7+5=12 (1+2=3)
10-3=7 (Kua for man)
5+3=8 (Kua for woman).
East Group and West Group
Kua numbers fall into two groups: East and West group. People who belong to an East group should sleep and choose a house or working desk and chair facing an East group direction while those belong to a West group then follow the West group direction. For example, if your kua number is 3, then you can choose a house facing North, East or South. If this is not possible, then you can sleep or working at your desk facing these directions.
Kua numbers 1, 3, 4 and 9 are people who belong to the East Group.
Kua numbers 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are people who belong to the West Group.
Before finding your number from the table below, you must check the date of your birth based on the Chinese New Year. The previous year is used if your birthday falls before the start of Chinese New Year.
